The Connecticut Forest and Park Association posts trail work parties and events on its volunteer portal. You spend a few hours outdoors with the same group, which makes it easy to get talking.

Train for a road race
The Faxon Law New Haven Road Race starts on the New Haven Green each September, and the Hartford Marathon runs through the city each October. Training for one gives you a reason to join a running group in the months before.

Go to the Norwalk Oyster Festival
The Norwalk Oyster Festival is held each September in Norwalk, with the 2026 festival running from September 11 to 13. Food festivals are relaxed and sociable, and good to go to with a group of friends.

Watch the dragon boats in Hartford
The Riverfront Dragon Boat and Asian Festival takes place at Mortensen Riverfront Plaza in Hartford in August. It brings out crowds from across the region for racing and cultural performances.
